48 Inch Columbus Georgia (City Mills) Set Millstone
$4,500.00
Description
A whopper from Columbus/Muscogee County, Georgia. From City Mills, circa 1869. A commercial mill founded on the banks of the Chattahoochee River that processed corn to make grits and deliver some “South in your Mouth” throughout the Chattahoochee Valley. The mill was converted to a condo development and we got twelve sets of millstones (24 total). All are 48″ diameters, some are as thick as two feet, all have five weight pockets carved into the rear of the stone so the miller could balance them (there’s even a photo of one intact in the gallery), and some have great grooves, great edges, some are ground completely smooth, some cracked, and priced accordingly.
This particular stone is 48″ in diameter, 8″ thick with a 9″ square eye. Great grooves, decent edges. No yoke. No steel on perimeter, Cream colored granite, Quarter Dress cut. Will clean up nice. More pictures available on request. Weight approximately 1600 lbs.
